January 26, 2007, Newsletter Issue #11: Private Sale Used Car Financing

Tip of the Week

In the past, if you were buying a used car from a private seller, you may have had difficulty getting a loan. Many banks and credit unions are reticent to finance private transactions. Today, however, there are two online lenders that do provide used car loans to buyers of cars from private sales:

• E-loan.com
• Capital One Finance

Both companies accept online applications for car loans on private sales. If approved, the companies will mail you a check in the amount of the loan so you can complete the transaction.

*The interest rates on these types of loans are slightly higher than those you would pay to finance a used car purchase at a dealership but are still very competitive.
